How Nyota Trek Started

Daniel grew up in Moshi, at the foot of Kilimanjaro. As a young man, he started working as a porter, carrying gear up the mountain for trekking companies. Over the years, he became a guide, then a lead guide, and eventually spent more than 15 years on Kilimanjaro, helping hundreds of people reach the summit.

But during those years, he saw things that didn't sit right. Porters being underpaid. Guides rushing climbers up too fast. Companies cutting corners on safety. Travelers arriving confused, unsure what they'd signed up for.

He realized that climbing Kilimanjaro should be different. It should be safe. It should be clear. And the people who make it possible — the guides, the porters, the cooks — should be treated fairly.

So Daniel started Nyota Trek. A small company based in Moshi, run by people who know the mountain, who live here, and who care about doing things the right way.

Today, we guide private treks, small groups, families, and women-only climbs. We don't rush. We don't cut corners. And we make sure everyone — climbers and crew — is looked after.

Women-Only Treks

Some women prefer to climb with other women. We understand that, and we offer women-only treks led by experienced female guides.

Our female guides are trained, certified, and have years of experience on Kilimanjaro. They know the mountain, they know how to keep you safe, and they create an environment where everyone feels comfortable.

Whether you're traveling solo, with friends, or as part of a group, you're welcome here.
